The Abbey Collection
In 1979, Lyn Westfall, began a body of work, that was to result in a major series of over 50 paintings, watercolours and drawings. Then known as ‘Mrs.Tramble’, she was a highschool Visual Arts Teacher at Loretto Abbey, (include photo). At the time, this was the Motherhouse of the Loretto Sisters, as well as, a girls’ highschool in north Toronto.
With popsicle stick and India Ink, she recorded antique chairs and vases, saints hidden in stained glass windows, a library full of rare books, gilded mirrors and even ornate door knobs.
The ink drawings were then projected onto prepared masonite panels, onto which she applied oil paint, loosely thinned with turpentine.
