Requiem
When my mother, Marie Westfall, passed away in 2000, a friend suggested that I listened to Gabriel Faure’s Requiem. I found this music very consoling and soulful. It wasn’t long before I realized that I wanted to paint the music I was hearing. After many, many listenings, I began to imagine the possible colours, shapes and sizes, that each section of the music suggested. So, with Walkman in my apron pocket, I began painting the actual music. The result, after almost 3 years, resulted in 12 large canvases.
Gallery Lambton, in Sarnia, Ontario exhibited the entire body of work in 2003, accompanied with a catalogue: Requiem.
